How To Make Produce Bags

by - August 18, 2019

Ever since I purchased my first tote bag, I felt like I was doing something good in my life, and after I found out that produce bags existed, I couldn't wait to get some. Even though most produce bags are expensive, I still decided to purchase some anyway. When I did, I realized how simple the bags were made, and how I could totally make my own. The next day, I went to the fabric store and purchased a similar fabric that matched the produce bags, and ended up making 10 bags in total. Making your own bags is really easy to do and can cost way less. Learn how to make your own bags by hand down below!

  • The fabric of choice
  • Ruler
  • Needle and Thread
  • Scissors
  • String

STEP 1.) Begin by deciding what size you would like your bags to be. I made mine 18 inches by 24 inches.

STEP 2.) Cut the fabric according to the measurements.

STEP 3.) Fold the fabric in half, and make sure the edges line up.

STEP 4.) Pin one of the sides leaving 1/2 inch of space between the edge of the fabric and do the same thing for the bottom side.

Leave the top open with enough space to fit the string around 1 1/2 inches of space.

STEP 5.) Sew the side and the bottom by hand ( like I did ) or with a sewing machine. ( I went over it twice but you don't have too.) Trim off the sides for a clean finish and remove the pins.

STEP 6.) Finally, sew the top and leave one of the sides open. Then, insert the string and cut enough rope to poke out of the bag. Lastly, tie a knot and you are all finished!
