How to make rice water for hair growth

by - January 30, 2021

Around 2 years ago, I decided to bleach my long dark hair (from home) to an ash blonde. Long story short, I ended up frying the ends of my hair! I had no other option but to chop off most of my length. I was left with damaged and brittle shoulder-length hair. At that moment, I was willing to try anything to grow my hair healthy again. After struggling for so long, I did some research online and came across rice water.  When I read all of the benefits that come when using this method. I decided to give it a try and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. In fact, rice water saved my hair. Using it once a week can strengthen the hair, promote hair growth, and make the hair healthy again. Down below, I'll be showing you how to make rice water and how to use it.

HISTORY.

Rice water has been used for several years by women in China as a beauty treatment for healthy hair and skin. The Yao women who live in a village called Huangluo China are known for bathing their hair in rice water to obtain beautiful long hair.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING RICE WATER ON THE HAIR?

Rice water is packed with minerals, vitamin B, C, E,  amino acids, and antioxidants that are all important for healthy hair. Rice water stimulates hair growth, minimizes hair fall, and strengthens the roots of the hair. It also reduces split ends, promotes shine and silky smooth hair.

HOW TO MAKE RICE WATER.

There are several ways you can make rice water. For example, you can do the boil method, or you can make fermented rice water.  The easiest way (I find) is by soaking the rice in water for 30 minutes. However, if you have more time, I recommend making fermented rice water as it has more benefits for the hair than plain rice water. Depending on the length of your hair, you might want to adjust the recipe to make more or less for your hair. I always recommend making more for later use. You can always store the leftover rice water in the refrigerator, no longer than 7 days.

INSTRUCTIONS:

METHOD 1:  To make plain rice water grab 1/2 cup of uncooked white or brown rice and wash thoroughly to get rid of any dirt. Then, put the rice water in a bowl and fill it with 2-3 cups of water and allow it to soak for 30 minutes at room temperature.  Every once in a while, make sure to stir the water around to mix everything well. Once the water looks cloudy, strain the rice water into a clean bowl.

METHOD 2:  To make fermented rice water, follow the same steps as method 1 but allow the rice to soak for 24 hours at room temperature.

METHOD 3:  To make boiled rice water take a 1/2 cup of clean rice and add more water than you typically use to cook it. Once the water boils and the rice is cooked, strain the rice water into a clean bowl. Set aside to cool completely before use.

HOW TO USE RICE WATER ON HAIR?

METHOD 1:  Shampoo and condition your hair as you usually would. Pour the rice water over your hair, making sure to massage the scalp. Leave for 20-30 minutes and rinse off with water.

METHOD 2:  My preferred way of using rice water is by using it as an overnight hair treatment. I pour the rice water into a spray bottle and apply it to my hair before going to bed. Once my entire hair is damped in rice water, I like to put it up in a high bun or in braids wrapped in a scarf and wash it off the next morning.
